When moving here are some helpful reminders:
Before Moving -
- Give the Post Office your new address and have your old mail
forwarded
- Change addresses on bank accounts and credit cards
- Notify magazine and newspaper subscriptions (may take a few
weeks to filter through)
- Notify friends and/or relatives
- Notify DMV of your new address
- Notify insurance company of new location for coverage's: life,
health, fire & auto
- Cancel service for gas, electric, water and telephone from your
previous residence
- Ask about regulations for pet licenses, vaccinations, and tags
if you're moving to a new County
- Plan to use foods a week or so before your move
- Make a color code which plug goes where on the TV & DVD
- Clean rugs or clothing before moving, and have them wrapped
- Check with your moving company about insurance coverage, packing/unpacking,
labor, arrival day
On Moving Day -
- On Moving day carry enough cash or checks to cover cost of expenses
- Carry jewelry and documents yourself or use certified/registered
mail
- Plan for transporting pets; they are poor traveling companions
if unhappy
- Let a close friend or relative know route and schedule you will
travel
- Double-check closest, drawers and shelves to be sure they are
empty
- Check with your moving company about insurance coverage, packing/unpacking,
labor, arrival day
- Leave all old keys and garage door openers, needed by new owner
or tenant, with REALTOR
At Your New Address -
- Check on service of telephone, gas, electricity, water and cable
- Have appliances checked
- Ask mailperson for mail they may be holding for your arrival
- Visit city offices and register for voting
